*CLOSED*Spring 2011 Capital Home & Garden Show Tickets Giveaway

*THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. WINNERS HAVE BEEN CONTACTED VIA EMAIL*

Ready to get your garden in gear this spring, or perhaps tackle your next home-improvement project?

Next Friday, February 25th – Sunday February 27th, 2011 is the annual Capital Home & Garden Show at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, VA. My family and I have attended this event for years and really think it’s one of the best home shows in the DC  metro area. If you’re looking to take on a home or landscaping project, if you enjoy gardening or want to see two HGTV stars in person, you’ll definitely want to attend! You’ll also get the chance to find out the latest design trends, attend sessions with celebrity experts in the home & garden industry, meet with local vendors to discuss your home projects and collect S.W.A.G. (you know “Stuff We All Get”… I love the yellow plastic construction hard hats for kids that Moss Design has given out in the past plus there seem to be plenty of free candy, pens, rulers, key chains, etc.). Be sure to ask vendors if they have any special home show discounts if you sign up; many of them are offering discounts or coupons for home show attendees.

This is an event for the whole family! Some of the highlights of this year’s show include:

  • Chip Wade, celebrity contractor and master carpenter from HGTV’s “Designed to Sell” and “Curb Appeal: The Block”. Appearing Saturday & Sunday to discuss “Lessons Learned from TV Make-Overs.” Schedule of appearance is listed here.
  • William Moss, “The Garden Boss,” from HGTV’s “Dig In”. Appearing Saturday & Sunday to discuss “Container Gardening: Solutions for Small Space Gardening.” Schedule of appearance is listed here.
  • Mike McGrath from WTOP News Radio will share his expertise in gardening. Appearing Friday, February 25th only. His sessions include: “Get Your lawn Off Drugs!” (11:00 am), “Grow your best tasting tomatoes ever” (2:00 pm), “Organic Answers to your Toughest Garden Questions” (4:00 pm).
  • Idea Gardens – Stroll through the Ideas Gardens created by the region’s top landscaping companies and featuring the newest gardening techniques and designs. These are some grand-scale gardens with whimsical themes even set to music; lots of fun to check out!
  • For Kids: Meet Clifford the Big Red Dog presented by WETA. Clifford will be appearing at the show Saturday, February 26th from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.
  • Enjoy the sounds of the Classical WETA Players brass quintet when they perform live from the Idea Gardens. Appearing Saturday, February 26th at 4:00 pm.
  • Over 750 exhibits representing local companies and contractors in the remodeling, design, garden and home improvement-related industries.

Kids 5 and under have free admission and children 6-12 years old are only $3.00 per ticket. Regular adult admission is $13.00. But, I’m happy to have the opportunity to giveaway 2 free tickets to 5 lucky winners! You have up to four ways to enter:

  1. Simply leave a comment on this blog post by Tuesday 2/22/11 11:59 pm ET letting me know you want to attend the home & garden show.
  2. Extra entry given if you share your favorite item in your home or garden (it could be a favorite room, favorite piece of furniture, favorite decor item, favorite plant, etc.). Please leave this as a separate comment from the first entry.

Disclosure: Special thanks to the Capital Home Show marketing & PR firm for supplying these free tickets for my readers! On a side note, my husband’s company has an exhibit at the home show each year and so as an exhibitor we’ve gotten complimentary tickets for the past years as each exhibitor does. This giveaway is held separate from the tickets supplied to my husband’s company and has been coordinated directly through the Capital Home Show team. The opinions shared in this post are my own, and I love to share great deals, local events and giveaways for my readers!

I would love to attend the Home Show. My husband and I just bought a home in 2009 and have started finding out that many of the things that passed the home inspection, actually did not. We had a really bad inspector.
We also have a lot of landscaping to work on this year and would love to check out some of the local businesses.

  8. Jennifer

    I subscribe via email.

My favorite room in my house is my laundry room. The previous owners painted it this crazy shade of orange…and now I totally love it! It’s such a happy color… it makes doing laundry not seem like such a chore.

  13. Lisa

Hubby has always wanted to attend the Expo and this year he wants to start a boxed garden. Hopefully he can get some ideas while at the show.

We recently moved from a 3 BR home with a den to a 1 bed 1 bath condo with a balcony! I miss my gardens, especially the herb garden. We also loved the Colorado H & G show. Some high schools would design and build gardens there, those that offer classes in landscape design. They were great, so I look fed to comparing!

  21. Susan W

Just found you. My favorite place is a herb and flower garden. Another favorite place is being on my bicycle!

  22. Karen Hamlin

  26. Erika

My favorite thing in my house is our playroom. It gives our girls a place to play while keeping MOST of their toys confined to one area…making it a little easier to have a clean house.

  27. Erika

I subscribed to your emails…don’t know why I didn’t do this before!

  28. Maria

  31. Steve

  33. Jen H.

I’m starting to decorate my apartment and have been having a lot of luck finding items from estate sales in the area. I’d love to go to the show to get some ideas of what to look for at future sales!

  34. Jen H.

My favorite item in my house is a retro hanging lamp from the 1960s. It’s yellow and green with gold trim, which sounds gaudy, I know, but I’m convinced I just haven’t found the right surroundings for it. 🙂

  35. We would love to go to this event! We have several home improvement projects on the horizon for our aging townhouse. Thanks for the giveaway!

  36. Winds

My husband and I are going to be buying our first house this spring, so this show is going to be interesting to go to!
